Over the next several months, there will be opportunities to provide feedback on concept options and guide the final design of the plaza. and already there’s turmoil in the small booth above the stands at Hollywood Park. As part of this exciting transformation, we want to hear from the community on what they would like to see in the new plaza. The City of Cañon City is working to create a community plaza space at the Historic Clock Tower in downtown Cañon City. Among the features Cañon City believes this space could support are comfortable seating areas and tables, landscape and lighting, space for retail incubators to be managed by Cañon City Economic Development staff, water features all uniquely intended to enhance the fabric of downtown along Main Street, and be uniquely Cañon City in experience. But the space could do much more to serve as a westerly focal point for downtown Cañon City. This is a dramatic underuse of the property, so much so that it garnered special mention for redevelopment in Cañon City’s 2021 Comprehensive Plan update.Ĭlock Tower Plaza is surrounded by retail, restaurant, professional office and hotel uses along Main Street and off Royal Gorge Boulevard (aka US Highway 50). It currently exists as overflow parking for downtown uses, and features a three-story freestanding clock at the space’s northeast corner. The City envisions the Clock Tower Plaza space as a cool urban gathering space near the westerly end of Cañon City’s Main Street.
